DESIGNED LUCK Book Club Discussion Guide Designed Luck: How to Put Yourself Where Good Things Happen Stephanie Timm, PhD Core idea Opportunity travels through environments, people, and practices. Luck still includes chance, but good things do not arrive into a vacuum. They reach lives through the places people enter, the relationships that can find them, and the practices that help them notice and respond when something useful appears. How to use this guide Choose the questions that fit your group. You do not need to answer all of them. Discussion questions 1. Which part of the book felt most immediately relevant to your life right now: Place, People, or Practices? 2. What is one place in your ordinary week that makes useful contact easier? What is one place that makes it harder? 3. Where do useful ideas, invitations, or introductions tend to travel through people in your life? 4. What is one thing you care about that other people may not know enough to help with? 5. Which condition felt strongest for you: Exposure, Environment, Beauty, Proximity, Visibility, Openness, Courage, Timing, or Receiving? 6. Which condition felt easiest to overlook? 7. What do you tend to do when something promising appears before you feel fully ready? 8. What is one small change you could make this week to give good things more ways to reach you? Optional group exercise Each person names one opportunity they would like to make more reachable, then answers: - Where could it realistically cross my path? - Who might help it travel toward me? - What would I need to do quickly if it appeared? Close with one small experiment Pick one change small enough to try in the next seven days: a place to visit, a person to reconnect with, a signal to send, a follow-up to make, or one source of friction to remove.
